Based upon Colston Whitehead's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, "Nickel Boys" (2024) follows an African-American boy who is sent to an abusive reform school in Jim Crow law-era 1960s Florida. Filmed via the first-person subjective camera, it allows the viewer to emotionally engage with the story in a truly unique way.
Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, "Monster" (2023) explores a troubling schoolyard incident through shifting, Rashomon-style perspectives. This deeply moving Japanese drama peels back layers of truth, miscommunication, and empathy featuring a breath-taking score by the legendary Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Both films are available on BBC iPlayer.
Meetings take place in the Large Conference Room on the first floor of the Community Centre.
