Art and Artists

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
When: On Wednesdays
2nd Wednesday monthly at 10.30am

You really don’t need to be an expert on Art to be a member of this Group –
access to Wikipedia and Google are all that’s needed. Google Arts & Culture
is freely available online, or as an iPad or tablet App.
About two weeks before the monthly meeting Elaine sends out an email about the topic, usually with suggestions about web sites that will be useful.

Art UK has information about every UK public art collection (over 3,500)
and dailyartmagazine.com (there is also a Daily Art App) has an
interesting newsletter every day.

If you like visiting art galleries and National Trust Houses, and looking at statues in cities and parks, and would like to learn more about all kinds of artworks, you’ll be very welcome in this Group. The usual format is presentations (voluntary!) about relevant artworks by as many of the members as possible in the time, sometimes preceded by an overview by Elaine.

Elaine puts all the slides on a slide show watched on a TV screen, though some members prefer to bring their pictures on a flash drive, or printed out. Everyone usually joins in brief discussion. Of course anyone is welcome to simply sit in and observe.

Meetings are held in the leader's home. For more information send an email to Elaine via the group leader link above

The topics listed below will all take place in Elaine’s house.
We try to go on visits to galleries reachable by public transport whenever they have an interesting exhibition. Sometimes they are at fairly short notice, if there is one before January it will replace the appropriate meeting and the programme will move on by a month.
